YOUTH POETRY SLAM
Poetry slam is a performance poetry competition where the audience helps decide the outcome. See Northland’s youth poets battle it out on-stage, performing their own original poetry and competing in two rounds for the most enthusiastic audience response and highest scores from the panel of judges. Come along to the Whangarei Youth Poetry Slam, hear Northland high school students tell you how they see it and lend your support to local young people with something to say. Entry as a competitor is open to all Northland high school students. Students: register to compete by Monday 18 August. Entry Details: Free to enter and attend. School representatives can enter through their schools or by contacting Hannah. Poems must be your own original work, under 3 minutes in length and be performed without props or accompanying music; you can only use the sounds you can make with your own body and spoken words. Time starts when you start speaking. Be prepared to perform up to two different poems, depending on how many rounds you make it through on the night.
